Garrison Keillor is an internationally recognized American icon for his public broadcasting works, as well as an author and a humorist. Probably his most famous work was a show named “A Prairie Home Companion” that largely centered on the stories of the eccentric (& fictitious) community of Lake Wobegon, MN. Today, at 82, he is still writing, hosting a radio show, and participating in public events.
This past Friday, I came across his recent column: “This is a Great Country.” I thought it was an excellent reminder that while things may have changed over the past 50 years, there are many common traits we can appreciate and practice – one of which is kindness.
Good manners and kindness have the capacity to counterbalance today’s fast-paced world of direct communications, attitudes, and behaviors – in my opinion.
In my many years of business, I have found that honesty and politeness are the best travel companions, no matter where you go. Never mind the fact that these qualities can have a very positive impact on both your professional and personal life.
“Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”
~ Mark Twain
I hope you check out the article above, and maybe challenge yourself over the next 30 days to test how adding a little more kindness to each day.
You may not need this kind of pursuit, but I find I sometimes need to be intentional to not let myself get distracted or influenced by the outside world.
See if you notice a difference. It’s free to try, and I promise, it will allow you to sleep better if nothing else!
